If first lockdown was about sourdough, squats and staying fit..this last one has been about marmalade, keeping MOVING and staying SANE!

MOVING BIT.

Just been for a walk. Got thinking about the difference between exercise and movement. We can exercise intermittently in our day/week, but our quality of life is influenced by how much we MOVE! You can go out for a run/gym session every single day, but unless you move consistently through the rest of the day, you can still be leading a sedentary lifestyle. Yikes. We know that's not good for our health. Every time I rise to the challenge of Cairn Wood, I am grateful for all the squats, toe flexibility exercises, lunges, bridges, balancing on one leg - all driving me up that hill. Pilates is about enabling our bodies to move more..not just during the class but when we;

  • Squat to play with a child or grab that sale item that has fallen to floor, AND more importantly to be able to get up again!

  • Reach (Ribcage Closure) to the high locker in an airplane (even typing this makes my heart sing..!)

  • Open arms (Fly) to hug that family member/friend (ditto heart sing moment)

  • Twist (Bow and Arrow) to wave and Scissor Arm to flex your mobile shoulder to say cheers with a glass of bubbly in a restaurant...(see where I'm going with this)

  • Dance!. Move lots. Align your containers. Support your head (equivalent to a 5L container of water) on top of a well stacked up spine. Cannon ball head. Golf tee top of spine. Move your toes, all 10 of them. But especially your big toe. Vitally important.

SANITY BIT.
 Mental Health Week was in May and am very aware that many are feeling the strain out there. Had an interesting chat with client re anxiety about returning to 'normal life', but not due to Covid. For other reasons. Totally get that. Reassured her that she was not alone, all this opening up again is exciting and great, but it's more change. Takes time to adjust.
With all the upheaval this period of our lives has brought, I am taking this opportunity to introduce a studio36 client, Angela Poulter, who is a trained psychotherapist. Some of you will know Angela from classes, and others will recognise the name from the admin role as she has helped me over the past few months. It's within this role that I have had the privilege of getting to know Angela better over the last wee while, and can honestly highly rate her integrity and common sense, empathic approach to all that life has chucked at us recently.
You can see Angela's profile here. She's working online at the moment, but hoping to offer some face to face sessions soon.

I am very lucky to know other Studio36 clients who are dedicated workers in this field and who I can highly recommend.  Sarah Mackie - who is a trained CBT and EMDR practitioner. Contact Sarah at sarah4cbt@gmail.com I have a number of contacts, so for any further details please drop me a text/email. alisonlyons@studio36ni.com/Tel:07484 642470

See very soon I hope, Ali x
