Update from Studio36

Last week was full of mixed emotions for various reasons. Some lovely news at the start of the week but then real tragedy and sadness midweek. Family and clients. My life. See note on 'leaky tyre' below, will make sense hopefully.
The week ended with Megan saying goodbye to the studio for a while to start an exciting new chapter. She looks fab. All neat bump, like she has swallowed a Triad ball whole!
All the very best to her and Phil, and really hope she gets a good rest over the next few weeks!

Shout out to the Studio36 Strangford Lough swimmers?

As much as I’m up for most wellbeing challenges, I’m not sure the freezing waters of Strangford are my natural habitat? Bit like a very cold sheep dip. (I have however always been very honest in admitting its the full length towelling Dryrobe I covet.)

I find myself under a tiny bit of pressure to plunge in as quite a few clients are now endorsing this mad behaviour. Fanatically.  A regular client has recently asked in class for contacts as she wants to try it out…but wisely not alone. Deep respect. Hence the callout. It’s the name you have to get right too. I know of the “Blue Tits’, the ‘Chunky Dunkers’ and ‘Bathing Belles’...
Any other studio36 bathers please get in touch ..would be good to know how many of you are nuts/brave enough to do it!!

On that note for those interested, I am delighted to share a very exciting link to a short film aired this Friday on the subject of cold water swimming. I am led to believe it briefly features a studio36 client (and currently studio36 admin whizz) Angela Poulter. She is a Bathing Belle as mentioned above! It is part of the NI Science Festival, and is either free to access or with a donation. Every ticket sold helps plant a tree!

I was listening to a podcast recently with Rangan Chatterjee http://www.drchatterjee.com interviewing Laurie Santos, a Professor of Psychology at Yale University. For the reason mentioned above, it definitely resonated with me.  She described happiness like a ‘leaking tyre’, never in a constant state but needing bursts of input to keep it inflated. I really see Pilates like that. As well as teaching, I do a regular Zoom class with Megan and another with a London Body Control teacher, both amazing classes. It's not only the stretch and strengthening your body that feels great, but also the connection and checking in with others. Always leave me feeling totally uplifted. (Unless of course we're doing 'The Hundred'..that can temporarily deflate my tyre a little!)
Hope you all have a good half term break with plenty of bursts of happiness!

Ali x
